Wearable Histories: A Celebration of Creativity, Femininity and Vintage Fashion

Date: Wednesday 19th April
Time: 5pm – 7pm
Place: Just Grand! Vintage Tearoom, Leeds, LS1 6PG.

This week I met with twin Design grads of the University of Leeds, Abigail and Chloe Baldwin, who set up their illustration collective, Buttercrumble, back in 2012. As a hard-working, harmonious duo, the two balanced studying, working in agencies, and establishing themselves as creative freelancers, allowing them to make Buttercrumble their full-time creative venture only six months after graduating.

From collaborating with other creative businesses in the city such as Independent Leeds Magazine to painting 5-minute illustrations in-store at Fred Aldous, it is their passion to create, design and illustrate that drives this twin-team to success. Following their core values of β€œsmile, collaborate and build foundations,” Buttercrumble have built branding campaigns and design artwork for a variety of local and nationwide companies such as Leeds Dock, Leeds Libraries and Killer Brigade Clothing.

Their most recent project, however, is a more personal exhibition of their artwork in the form of a range of quirky, luxury scarves. The fun, whimsical designs on each scarf tell a unique story that is inspired by the concept of vintage clothing and the journey of the garment. With this theme in mind, it is almost a given that the exciting launch event will be held at the wonderful Just Grand! Vintage Tearooms in the Grand Arcade.

This launch event will take place on Wednesday 19th April from 6:00pm, and will play host to a number of other local creative businesses and illustrators. There will be an array of fabulous cakes from For The Love Of Cakes, music from the wonderful Lily Kerbey and some gorgeous goodie bags with treats from sponsors, The Body Shop, Desenio, and Spectrum Collections.

It is set to be a lovely, intimate event that is a celebration of creativity, femininity and vintage fashion. Be sure to follow Buttercrumble on their exciting journey, and you may find the beautiful scarf range on their website below.
