This year we have a new committee, and with it a new image, website and vitality.

Lippy has a history that spans more than 30 years and has been produced in many different formats. Even though editors, writers and artists may change, the essence of what Lippy is has remained.

Lippy is a women’s magazine and an alternative to mainstream media! We are based in Leeds but open to all for contribution. We are unafraid to voice raw opinion, tackle the controversial and provide a voice for the thinking student body.

As a magazine we aim to strike a balance between in-depth inquiry, personal rant and light-hearted copy. Anyone can write for Lippy, and we are constantly on the lookout for new writers or contributors. We are dedicated to finding an eclectic bunch of writers whatever your background, gender or music playlist.

ORGANISATION OF MAGAZINE: A RANGE OF OPTIONS

The organisation of the magazine will be a little different and have even more options so everyone can really be part of the publication.

-    We aim to print 2-3 main issues this academic year alongside a web-blog of work on a weekly basis. This year there will be the core committee who deal directly with LUU but there is the opportunity to be part of a larger committee who will make up a team who concentrates on editing; the running and printing of the issues, and general design/admin aspects of the magazine. Positions will be open from the beginning of the new term and there is always room for growth throughout the year.

-    However, if you are looking to get your creative self on the go this year and would just like to contribute articles and/or artistic design/photography; then we can offer you a featured spot on the site or a verbal connection with the team surrounding the main Issues. There will be society discussions surrounding features, movements in politics and our lives in Leeds; accompanied of course by tea and biscuits!

-    The other option is we have now introduced the ability for you submit one-off articles! You are able to do this by clicking on the submission box on the homepage and submit a one-off article via an upload page.

Your article will feature among the other great voices at Leeds University and will enable you to get your writing out there and published. It also means you are not tied down to a commitment of writing something new more often than you want. We all know the pressures of University workload, so upload as and when you want to with the ease of one-click!

GREAT EXPECTATIONS

We are really excited about this coming year. We want to be your alternative voice on campus; giving voice to the student body and facilitating intelligent discussion on a variety of issues. There are also fun and games to be had as Lippy will really be pushing the social element this year with Fresher’s socials, coffee-catch ups and building friendships that can only grow into great journalism.
